SPIRITUAL AWAKENING – THE PATH TO FREEDOM

In the article, “Knowledge of God”, I indicated that you need not be religious to be Spiritual. You need not be a Christian, a Moslem, a Jew, an Animist or an Atheist to be Spiritual. While you need not be religious, there always is a spiritual dimension to your life, whether you know it or not, whether you are aware of it or not, whether you are conscious about it or not.

THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

Every human being I have ever met is having some kind of conversation --within and without of himself-- on the topic of God. I like to assert that the introspective search for our origins and our creator must be genetically wired into our very consciousness. Being conscious of the finiteness of my own being, I am very humbled by the experience to write on the topic.

CHANGE IS AN IDEA, A CONVICTION AND NOT A MAN

We, the African people have been cultured into believing in personalities instead of strong institutions and sound ideas. We tend to believe in “strong men” instead of powerful institutions and laws that must be above all men. We tend to put our hopes and dreams in the hands of one “super man” instead of trusting our believes into strong principles, sound ideas, and the rule of law.

Perhaps, it is time that we learn the sobering lessons of history that “A man can and will probably fail the people, but sound ideas and principles won’t”.

TRANDSCENDING THE EGO

As human beings, we all feel the need to express our thoughts, our desires, our feelings. And sometimes we do so with passion, obstination and stubbornness. The narcissistic character inherent to our being is what makes us want to achieve greater heights of some sort during our lifetime. Our ego is, to some extent what defines our personality and our character. It’s what makes us who we are for the most part. And there is nothing wrong with letting these natural impulses that stem from the core of our being to materialize, so long as we acknowledge and understand the existence of concurrent and parallel impulses, desires and wills in the universe that are not necessarily aligned with ours.

THE FREEDOM FROM WITHIN

The first amendment of the constitution of the United States enumerates a broad range of Freedom. The authors of this historic document, --the founding fathers as they are referred to --, believed that these Freedoms are endowed to us by our creator and not by any man or government. This timeless creed has proven itself to be at the core in the belief for the fight for freedom all over the world. The founding fathers believed this truth to be self-evident and fundamental to the human conscience. When in captivity, the virtuous mind will remain restless and unrelenting in the pursuit of liberty, until it achieves the level of freedom known to its consciousness.
