SPIRITUAL AWAKENING – THE PATH TO FREEDOM

In the article, “Knowledge of God”, I indicated that you need not be religious to be Spiritual. You need not be a Christian, a Moslem, a Jew, an Animist or an Atheist to be Spiritual. While you need not be religious, there always is a spiritual dimension to your life, whether you know it or not, whether you are aware of it or not, whether you are conscious about it or not.

If you are a human being alive and breathing, you are a spiritual being –to a more or lesser extent-- whether you like it or not, whether you know it or not. And you are subject to the Universal Law of Cause and Effect that operates the Universe. If you kill, you shall surely be killed. If you hate, you shall be hated, if you bless, you shall be blessed, if you love, you shall be loved and so forth. It's the law of the Universe.

The Universe will always –unfailingly and infallibly-- respond to your actions, thoughts or feelings with a reaction of its own. You can’t escape from it. It’s the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Karma. The law of "You rip what you sow". It’s the prime Law of the Universe. Learn to work with it ! Learn to live with it !

Spirituality is the essence of your being. Spirituality is the instinct from within that informs you of what’s true about yourself and what’s right. And when you begin to get in touch with your inner most being, when you begin to know for sure what’s true about yourself and what’s not, when you begin to feel for Mankind –as a whole—the way you feel for a loved one, you then begin to create a connection to the universe, to the mystic of existence, and to the Miracle of creation around you. When you become awakened to your spirit, to your awareness, when you become proverbially born again, the Universe around you becomes alive and conscious and God’s Spirit –within you-- will begin to reveal itself to you. When this happens, you begin to see the world differently. You begin to see humanity as an interconnected whole because you are now living from the true SELF –the spirit within-- and not the from the Mind.

With the true SELF revealed, you begin to understand that you can’t allow yourself to be bound to the expectation of others. You begin to comprehend that your life on earth is not just about you, but about you, the others and the relationships to God’s creation and the Universe.

The law of cause and effect informs that you are the Master of your own destiny. You are the sole causation of the effects and affects around you. You are at cause with what may be wrong in your life. You are responsible for the things that are not working for you, because you have not sought the kingdom of God first.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” These are the words of Jesus “The Christ” as captured in book of Matthew in Chapter 6 verse 33. –Matthew 6:33--.

So what is the kingdom of God ? Where is the kingdom of God ? Is it in a place called heaven ? Or have we all been looking for it at the wrong places ? This statement of Jesus –who was undoubtedly a Mystic, a Master, a Sage, a deeply spiritual being—is perhaps the most fundamental teaching of Christianity because it carries in it the promise of our aspirations, the hope of the possibility to achieve anything that you may be trying accomplish in your life and the lives of others around you.

If you could just somehow learn how to seek the kingdom of God, then all the things you have been hoping for will come to pass. So the key is to seek the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness.

But where and how do you seek this metaphoric kingdom ? What is this Kingdom ? And where do you begin ?

Back to scriptures, let’s look for clues as to where is the kingdom of God.

“Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” --Luke 17:21--.

Really, so the kingdom of God is within us ? So you have been carrying the kingdom of God within you and yet searching for it --outside of you-- ?

Christianity asserts that human beings are Body, Soul –or Mind-- and Spirit.

Your physical body is the part of your being that --began as a fetus in the womb of your mother and-- consists of this miraculous and incredible anatomy of interconnected organs and vessels. It’s the vehicle that allows you to interact with the physical world. It’s the indispensable tool needed to operate and interact in the material world. Without it, you can’t exist in the form that you know and understand right now. –Note, that I did not say that without it, you can’t exist, but rather, I am saying that without it you can’t exist in the realm that you know and understand right now--. There may be other realms in which you could exist without a physical body, but that discussion is beyond the scope of this writing. So I won’t delve in that in this writing.

Your Mind is the part of your being that essentially allows you to think, to process your thoughts and to decide on a course of action. It’s very intertwined with the human intellect. It’s the mediator between the spirit and the body. It is the processing center of the constant and unceasing collective stream of thoughts in the Universe that permeates and pervades our beings. It is the CPU –Central Processing Unit—of your being. It’s the intelligent part of your consciousness. –Note that I did not say, it’s the wise part of your consciousness, but rather the intelligent part of it. Intelligence is not the same thing as wisdom--. You can find lots of learned people in the world, who are very intelligent but are not wise. Conversely, you can find wise people who are not necessarily very learned.

Your spirit is the immaterial part of your being from which emanates your awareness and your consciousness. It’s the epicenter of the “I am that I am”. It’s the silent observer behind your eye balls that engenders the alchemy. It’s the energy that procreates the life force that keeps you alive, awake and conscious. It is the impulse of righteousness that hints you from time to time what is right. It’s the small still voice that informs you about what’s true about you within you. It is the center of the cosmic and universal wisdom within man. It’s the small representation of God within you. It’s the God within you and a co-creator of the Universe. And it’s really the core of your being.

God is not in some place called heaven. God is not above the skies, or beneath the oceans. Rather, God is the omnipresent essence, the omnipresent life force –the Energy or Alchemy-- that animates all matter, from the electrons in the atoms, to the cells of your body and the magical and miraculous life force within you --within your Spirit-- and within all the people around you. And you seek God primarily through the Spirit within you. The Spirit from within you is the nexus between you and God. It's the linchpin bewteen you, the Creator and the search for the HIS kingdom. It's the originating point in the journey of the search of the SELF and the search of God's kingdom and HIS righteousness. The whole of all the holy scriptures --Bible, Coran, Torah--, the quintessential objective of all religions is to get the human Spirit awakened so that MAN can begin to seek the kingdom of God --from within--. That is the meaning of the metaphorical "Born Again", so much talked about in the so called “Born Again” churches around the world today.

Born Again means you are becoming awakened and obedient to the laws of creation. Born again means You and the Universe --around you-- are mutually aware of the existence of each other and the relationship between each other. Born Again means that you have arrived at some level of the knowledge of the SELF and that the spirit within you bears witness to the Creator. --God, Allah, or whatever representation you may have of the Creator-- Born Again means you have acknowledged and reconciled your true SELF with the Creators Laws, Purpose and Commandments. Born again means you have become attuned to the laws of creation: “Thou shalt not kill”, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as you love yourself” and so forth. Born again means you have become aware of the need to rid your mind of its vices of hate, envy, jealousy, tribalism, corruption and other weaknesses and vices that hinder the human soul. Born again means that you have freed yourself from the ego. Being Born Again is the necessary condition for your personal initiation into the Spirit realm and into the search of your own Spirit within. Being born again is not a phenomenon exclusive to Christianity alone. It can happen out of the church. It can happen out of life’s experience. It can happen to you in times of tremendous pain, in times of joy. You just have to listen to your inner most being and learn from what it has to say to you.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3:3

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit --from within-- and in truth”. John 4:24

Look --very carefully-- at the people around you, look at your wife or your husband, look at your brother, your sister, your child, your father, your mother. They are alive ! There is a magical life force that keeps them alive, aware and conscious in the continuum of existence. There is a miraculous energy –an alchemy-- in them. It’s the God within them in manifestation. The same Alchemy that permeates them is the same that pervades you. That’s how we know that we are all connected and interconnected at the core by this energy, whether we know it or not, whether we want it or not, whether we are aware of it or not. Each and every one of us is a life force, an energy in the overall scheme of the Universe, just as a cell in your body is a part of a larger purpose in the overall scheme of keeping the physical body alive.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33.

So God is everywhere and within you and so is the Kingdom of God. Then how come we have to seek it ? Why is it then so elusive to find ? Why are we human beings so frustrated about getting to know this kingdom ? What is it about this kingdom we need to seek ?

In the article “Knowledge of God”, I indicated that spirituality is not the same thing as religiosity or “Churchianity”.—No offense to church goers. I go to church somewhat regularly, and I find my church experience very important--. You need not be a Christian, a Moslem or a Jew to be spiritual. Spirituality is the instinct, the impulse within the human consciousness to seek the creator. It’s the impulse wired within our consciousness to seek the will of our creator. Religion is just a consequence of this insatiable thirst and desire to want to know the creator and relate with HIM –to the extent that it can be--.

To seek the kingdom of God, we must first try to understand what it is. When we know –to the extent that we can—what it is, --or at least have a representation of it in our minds-- then perhaps we can begin to do what it takes to seek it. You can’t reasonably seek something that you don’t know what it is. You can’t know what it is if you don’t spend the time learning and studying about it.

The kingdom of God is not a place called heaven. Rather it is a spiritual state of awareness and consciousness. It’s a state of being within you that can be reached. When you get to that place in your mind and heart, where you feel pure love, unconditional love for God’s creation, then you are on your way to the kingdom of God. When you attain that state of consciousness where you feel free of hate, free from envy, free from jealousy, free from tribalism, free from corruption, free from witchcraft, you will indeed be seeking the kingdom of God. Seeking God’s kingdom is a journey to your inner most self, a journey to the core of your being, where you begin to transcend the intricacies and the trickeries of your ego. When you begin to reconcile your own being with the fundamental and elemental principle to love your God and to love your proverbial neighbor, and do unto others as you would like them do unto you, then and only then you will indeed be seeking the kingdom.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” –Matthew 22:36-40

"If you love me, obey my commandments." John 14:15

These verses teach us that love is not just a feeling in your heart. Love must be expressed and made manifest through actions. To Love God is an action and not a feeling. To Love God is obeying his commandment, which is to love his creation, to love the people you meet every day, to love your brothers and sisters, to love your neighbor. To Love God is dedicating yourself for the purpose of his creation. To Love God is helping to sustain and improve the lives of the people on earth. To Love God is to accustom your mind and your heart to feel for people in need, to sympathize and empathize with those who surfer. To Love God is to treat the least of us as we would want to be treated. To Love God means aligning your priorities –or at least some-- with God’s purpose. And to this purpose should any knowledge you acquire be dedicated to.

When you overcome the trappings of your ego, when you transcend the lower instincts of bias, hate, jealousy, hypocrisy, envy, self-aggrandizement, egocentrism, tribalism, corruption, witchcraft, blaming others for your own mistakes, pointing fingers at others, criticizing others --for the sole purpose of ridiculing or deriding them and not to help them improve on their thinking and grow--, denial of the truth; when you begin to overcome these weaknesses and immaturities of mind and spirit, you will begin to set your mind free from its shortcomings, weaknesses and impurities and in the course, you will be begin to learn how to Love others and to Love God. As you do these things, you will be seeking His kingdom and HIS righteousness.

It all begins with aligning yourself with the purpose of the most High or the creator. The purpose of creation is to promote and to sustain life. The entire Universe, the Sun, the Moon, the trees, the vegetations; all exist for the purpose to create, sustain and promote life in all of its forms. The cells of your body work selflessly, tirelessly and continually to sustain life to the body --without you having to tell them what to do--. The same is true of you, because you are part of a whole. You are a life force, an alchemy, an energy in overall scheme of the Universal purpose of creation. You are an elemental representation of the creator –or God’s spirit-- just as the cells of your body are representations of your physical body. Your purpose on earth is to enhance, to sustain, to promote and to improve God’s creation. Your work on earth is to contribute to society in a positive way and help others grow and expand. How you do that in your daily life is left to you. --If you are teacher, a preacher, a mechanic, a plumber, a Doctor, a police man, a civil servant, an engineer; --just to name a few--, be good at it. Because whatever you do in life –if done with love and compassion-- is a true possession in the changing fortunes of times, a humble and modest contribution to the overall scheme of the Universe, of which you are a co-creator. And in exchange, the Universe will return the favor to you. Because what you do serves Mankind in some way--.

“God’s work on earth must truly be our own”. –JFK--

And whatever you do, do not violate or undermind the principles and laws of creation. Do not go around hurting people by what you say, do or think. Don’t go around insulting, deriding and diminishing people. Don’t go around destroying others. For when you do, you are diminishing and destroying God’s creation and violating HIS law. And the Universe --by virtue of the Law of Cause and Effect-- will be left with no option but to settle the score with you. That's why you are at cause with what is happening in your life. You are the sole causation of the effects and affects around you. You are the sole party responsible for your situation in life. You are the Master of your own destiny. In the sense that when you create a thought or an action –positive or negative--, the Universe will respond to that thought or action with a reaction of its own, of the same polarity. –Negative to Negative and Positive to Positive--. It's the law of Karma. Conversely, when you change from within –in a positive way--, when you challenge yourself to overcome the vices of your mind, the Universe around you, --the people around you and those that you meet every day-- will change positively and favorably in the way they relate to you. This is the secret of the Law of Creation. Learn it ! Meditate on it !

Your mission on earth is to help improve on the human condition in some way. You must bring yourself to the understanding that you are part of a whole. You are part of bigger purpose than yourself. You are part of a grand scheme just as the cells of your body are part of a purpose greater than themselves. When you dedicate yourself selflessly to the cause of improving, promoting, enhancing God’s creation, you begin to comprehend the mystic of the Universe, you begin to experience God’s purpose being manifest in your own life through the Law of Cause and Effect.

When you begin to open yourself to the Universe, you begin to understand what’s really true about yourself. When you align yourself with the purpose of creation, you will begin to have a glimpse of what creation is all about, and the God from within you, the spirit from within you, the observer behind those eye balls of yours, the energy life force within you, the alchemist, will bear witness with your spirit that you are indeed seeking the kingdom of God. You find the kingdom by helping others, by extending your generosity, your kindness and compassion to the needy, by feeling for those who are in need and the poor in spirit, by appreciating what you have and not envy others, by thinking about what you can do to make life better on earth --to your fellow human beings-- and not what others have done wrong, when you begin to forgive an let go of the hurts that caused you to surfer. When you begin to do these things, the spirit of God will begin to manifest itself within you and through you. And you will indeed be seeking God’s kingdom and HIS righteousness. It's all within you ! Always remember that “Cause and Effect” is the prime law of the Universe. Love will bring love and hate will attract hate.

As you begin to seek God’s Kingdom and HIS righteousness, the Universe by virtue of the Law of Cause and Effect is left with no choice but to return the favor to you and hence the “All these things shall be added unto you”. This is the secret of the Law.

So the starting point is to overcome what I call the vices of the mind: Bias, Hate, Envy, Jealousy, Corruption, Tribalism, Witchcraft, hypocrisy, Self serving Ego, Un-forgiveness, and all the low insticts that hinder the expansion of the soul and the spirit.

Replace these vices with the virtues of: Love, Compassion, Generosity, Kindness, Sympathy, Empathy, fairness, righteousness, Harmony with yourself and others.

With the vices of the Mind replaced with the virtues, you now have to perform positive actions that are in alignment with Gods purpose for Creation. Then the Universe by virtue of the Law of cause and Effect will bring the desires of your heart to materialization.

We must come to the realization that our feelings, our thoughts, our actions, the words we speak –for better or for worse-- influence and alter the Universe around us and the people around us. These things influence our surroundings and are the direct or indirect causations of the reactions –towards us-- of the Universe, the people we meet every day and even those we are still to meet, because we are all connected and interconnected at the core of our beings. This is the mystery of creation that we must become attuned to as we embark in the spiritual journey of the search of the SELF or the spirit within.

Always remember this: when you change from within –in a positive way--, when you challenge yourself to overcome the vices of your mind, the Universe around you, --the people around you and those that you meet every day-- will react positively and favorably in the way they relate to you. This is the secret of the Law of Creation. Learn it ! Meditate on it ! Put it to test in your life and you will not be disappointed. Now, how you go about changing yourself is really up to you. You can do this by going to church, by praying and worshipping God in truth and in spirit. This is the path that the well established religions --Christianity, Islam and others-- follow. – It’s perhaps the easiest way to start--. You can also do this through relaxation, mediation, visualization, contemplation, positive affirmation, fasting, spiritual cleansing of the mind and other spiritual exercises. It begins by reading and studying spiritual literatures. This is the path employed by Buddhism and other Eastern spiritual philosophies, the Jewish Karbala, Scientology, AMORC, Freemasonry and others. But the goal is the same: rid the Mind of its vices and accustom yourself to love Gods creation in spirit and in truth. It's truly a personal journey to the heart of your inner most being, to the heart of your spirit.

Why is this important to the fight for freedom ? Why is spirituality so important to the cause of Africa ?

Well, when the people will have attained a certain level of maturity of mind and spirit, they will necessarily engender a progressive leap that has the capacity to transform society. And they will align their priorities with the purpose of the Creator in everything they do. When in position of power and responsibility, they will work tirelessly and selflessly to serve Mankind and not lend themselves to the selfish unscrupulous practices and instant gratification rewards of corruption and abuse of power. Under-development is not caused by Economics alone. It’s a reflection of our collective mental and spiritual state of awareness and consciousness. It is the culmination of our collective Karma. It is a measure of what we as a people deserve at this point in time of our evolution. The fear for God’s creation will bring wisdom to our people. It will compel them to do right by society and the Country.

When you change from within –in a positive way--, when you challenge yourself to overcome the vices of your mind, the Universe around you, --the people around you, those that you meet and still to meet-- will react positively and favorably in the way they relate to you. –ANST--
