TERM LIMITS: BEST HOPE AGAINST DICTATORSHIP IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

 

For centuries, the sub-Saharan African people have shed blood and tears from slavery and colonization. For decades, the African people have paid a steep price from bad governance, poverty, disease, corruption, tribalism, lawlessness, lack of accountability and responsibility. The sub-Saharan African people have hemorrhaged from the devastations of the corruption, embezzlement of public funds, cronyism and incompetence of their leaders.

BRANCHES OF A MODERN FORM OF GOVERNMENT

 

While there may be different models of government around the world today, all of them share some common characteristics. They are all essentially composed of 3 branches: The Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary. What makes them different is how power is distributed or shared amongst these branches.

DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT - SOME THOUGHTS

 

The word democracy comes from the Greek word “Demokratia” meaning simply, the rule of the people. In a democratic system of government, laws are designed and crafted under the premise of equality and freedom to all. These principles are reflected in all citizens being equal before the law and having equal access to legislative, political and social processes.

The African continent today is suffering from the consequences of bad governance, abuse –and misuse-- of power and lack of the rule of law. We the people of Africa are paying a steep price for the wrongs and incompetence of our leaders and their insatiable thirst and addiction to power. We have seen dictators stay in power indefinitely with no accountability --to the people they are supposed to serve-- and no clear path to a peaceful and constitutional transition of power.

CAMEROON: POLITICAL TRANSITION IS NEAR ?

 

After more than 30 years in power, the current system in Cameroon may finally be coming to an end. But the Cameroonian people must remain vigilant and steadfast to the last shenanigans of this President, whose Government will mostly be remembered for embezzlements, cronyism, tribalism and incompetence. After 30 years in power, the Cameroonian people have borne the brunt under the reign of this President.
